Driver covered in tomato sauce, not blood, after crash

Posted

After his white sedan collided with a passenger van on Sunrise Highway on Monday afternoon and rolled over, a driver was covered in tomato sauce, which may have appeared to be blood initially, confusing responding police officers about the extent of his injuries.

"Further evaluation revealed that he had sustained minor injuries," said Bellmore Fire Department Public Information Officer Vincent Scaduto.

The Bellmore Fire Department responded to the auto accident between the sedan and a passenger van on Oct. 19 at about 12:30 p.m. in front of P.C. Richards on Sunrise Highway in Bellmore. Firefighters, in concert with Nassau County Police Emergency Service Unit responders, had to extricate each of the lone drivers from the two vehicles involved. Both were transported to the hospital by NCPD ambulances.
