Fire breaks out on Florin Court in Bellmore

Posted

The rear of a Florin Court home sustained “moderate” damage after a fire broke out on an outdoor deck last Friday, fire officials said.

At about 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 31, Bellmore Fire Department Engine 306 was the first to respond to a report of a house fire on Florin Court near Lefferts Place in Bellmore, officials said. They said the extreme heat from flames on the deck caused the fire to spread behind a closed sliding-glass door into the home’s kitchen.

After a neighbor said the homeowners might have been inside, a search for possible victims began. Officials said the crew from Bellmore Ladder 606 broke into the house and searched for the homeowners, but no one was inside beside a dog, which was unharmed.

Bellmore Engine 602 stretched a hose through the front door to extinguish the fire inside the home. A propane tank was also removed from the deck, said officials, who added that the majority of damage to the property was to the outside deck and rear patio door and walls.

Upon arrival, Second Assistant Chief Steve Marsar assumed command of the scene. In addition to North Bellmore Ladder 657 being dispatched as an assist-and-search team, a ladder truck from the Wantagh Fire Department was also called to help. Bellmore fire officials said units from the Merrick and Levittown fire departments were on standby.

The fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Police Arson Squad. No injuries were

reported.
