Fire engulfs N. Merrick dry cleaner

Posted

Fire ripped through Abby’s Dry Cleaners on Jerusalem Avenue in North Merrick just after midnight on Friday. The North Bellmore and North Merrick fire departments responded to the blaze, which engulfed the structure in flames. Police investigators said they consider the fire “suspicious.”

About 75 firefighters in 10 trucks were needed to extinguish the blaze, police said. No injuries were reported. Police closed Jerusalem Avenue in both directions at Tadmor Street throughout the effort to bring the blaze under control.

The Nassau County Arson and Bomb Squad was at the fire site on Saturday.
