Fuschillo extends holidays for hospitalized kids

New York state Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr. recently delivered more than 1,500 toys to children in Winthrop-University Hospital’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center in Mineola.

Fuschillo, a Republican who represents Bellmore and Merrick, collected the toys through his annual “Extend the Holidays” toy drive, and along with representatives of the Nassau County Sheriff Officer’s Association, Laborers Local No. 66 and Laborers Local No. 1298, he delivered the toys to children in need of holiday cheer.

“One of the best parts of the holiday season for children is the thrill and anticipation of receiving the gift of a new toy,” said Fuschillo. “We want to make sure that children in the hospital, who are going through tough times, can experience those same feelings throughout the year.”

Schools, unions, and local residents in Merrick and Bellmore, including Birch Elementary School, Chatterton Elementary School, Fayette Elementary School, Levy-Lakeside Elementary School, Old Mill Road Elementary School, Park Avenue Elementary School and Mepham High School, donated many of the toys.

“I thank everyone who participated in the program for once again making it a great success,” said Fuschillo.
