Kennedy junior earns volunteerism award

The Kennedy High School Student Government granted its September C.A.R.M.A. Award to Ross Shulman, a Herald student columnist. The Cougars As Role Model Americans Program was established by the Student Government in 2009 to showcase the efforts of members of the school community to promote volunteerism. The program has recognized Kennedy students and staff members who have helped the poor, sick, elderly and underprivileged.

Shulman’s contributions to Kennedy’s H.O.P.E. Club (Help Our Planet Earth) have, school officials said, been “generous and pro-active.” A release from Kennedy High School read, “Ross’s immense commitment to the club over the past three years has earned him his position of co-president. Ross has implemented the school-wide weekly collections of recyclables, which resulted in over 85 percent of classrooms and offices having paper and plastic recycling containers. His involvement in the Reinhardt Early Childhood Center has been instrumental in educating elementary school children about the importance of recycling. Ross has taken an active role in helping Kennedy, as well as our local communities, ‘go green.’”
