Voters across Long Island went to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots for Nassau County Legislator and Hempstead Town Board.

In the race for Nassau County Legislator in District 5, Democratic candidate Seth Koslow declared victory over his Republican opponent Joe Baker following a close race, to represent the Freeport, Bellmore and Merrick communities.

Born and raised in Baldwin, Koslow's family has been an integral part of the local fabric. His father's business and his sister's role as a teacher have left a lasting impact on Nassau County. This strong connection motivated Koslow to enter politics and serve his community.

“I’m a democrat and a criminal defense attorney,” Koslow said. “My opponent was a court officer for three decades. Republicans would have you believe that the police would support him. But they endorsed me, because I want to work with them to solve our safety issues, like enforcing gun laws, tackling hate crimes, and addressing staffing shortages.”

As of now Koslow beat Baker by a margin of 534 votes. Baker's campaign was focused on community safety, supporting veterans, advocating for law enforcement, opposing sanctuary policies, and representing the diverse voices of his district.

Koslow's legal background, as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney, uniquely equips him to address the complexities of the justice system. He aims to bridge the gap between communities and law enforcement, advocating for meaningful changes in community safety.

Throughout his campaign, Koslow addressed key issues. He focused on affordability, infrastructure improvements, and community safety. His victory is a testament to his commitment to making Nassau County more affordable, improving infrastructure, and creating a safe and welcoming environment for families.

As a father of three, Koslow's dedication to the community is deeply personal. He actively participates in youth programs and extracurricular activities, reinforcing his commitment to keeping young people engaged and attached to the community.

Koslow's victory in the Nassau County Legislature election is not merely a political triumph but a testament to the power of personal connections, community engagement, and a sincere commitment to the well-being of the people he now proudly serves.

“Republicans would also have you believe that security and freedom are mutually exclusive, but my experience reflects the reality that we can keep families safe while also protecting the rights of communities of color in an unfair system,” Koslow said. “Police and communities are safest when we all trust each other.”
