Mad Men donate mad masks in Bellmore

On May 3, Town of Hempstead Councilman Christopher Carini and Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads continued their collection and distribution of personal protection equipment to healthcare professionals and civilians. The elected officials have once again partnered with Mad Men Barbershop of Merrick Road in Wantagh.

The pair, joined by Mad Men partners and Bellmore firefighters, used the Bellmore Fire Department station on Pettit Avenue as their site. Roughly 1,400 masks were distributed to first responders, healthcare workers and seniors, according to Carini.

Mad Men has paid for roughly 100,000 masks “out of pocket” during this pandemic, Carini said, 15,000 of which have been distributed at other local events. On April 28, the same group appeared at the Wantagh Fire Department to collect and distribute masks.

The next distribution event will be this Saturday, May 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Seaford Fire Department, located at 2170 Southard Ave. in Seaford.

“We’ve been giving out an enormous supply for these front-line workers,” Carini said. As a former police officer himself, “we know the importance of first responders’ needs.”

All members participating in the event were wearing masks and adhering to general safety precautions. The officials plan to partner with Mad Men again.
