Memorial Day Parade plans set in Bellmore

Posted

Bellmore and North Bellmore veterans are preparing for their annual parade and commemorative ceremonies on Memorial Day.

Four veterans’ organizations will sponsor the May 26 event, including North Bellmore American Legion Post 1749, Bellmore American Legion Post 948, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2770 and the Vietnam War Veterans Association.

Frank Colon, adjutant for North Bellmore’s legion, said the parade would begin in central Bellmore, and that two services honoring those who died in service to their country are planned.

A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. at the veterans’ monument near Bedford Avenue and Broadway, after which participants will line up for the parade.

Marchers will head north on Bedford Avenue at 10 a.m., before turning right on Oak Street, left on Bellmore Avenue and left on Newbridge Road. The parade will end at Newbridge Road Elementary School, the site of the second memorial service. The North Bellmore ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the monument in front of the school.
