Mepham throws a party at Homecoming

Posted

Mepham High School’s Homecoming parade carried extra significance this year, as the school is celebrating its 75th anniversary, and to help mark the occasion, Mepham added a daylong carnival to its Homecoming festivities on Saturday.

With the sun shining down and temperatures in the 70s, many former, current and future students spent the day with giant “Ms” on their cheeks, courtesy of the face-painting booth. Other students went to great lengths to show their school spirit, including a group that drew letters on their chests to spell out “Mepham Pirates.”

Two bouncy castles provided entertainment for the children in attendance, and much to the delight of Mepham students, a dunk tank afforded them the opportunity to soak their teachers and administrators, including Principal Michael Harrington. The booth was among the carnival’s most popular attractions, with lines stretching several dozen feet at times. Although participants were required to throw a ball at a circular target to release a lever and dunk their teachers, some took the liberty of pushing the button manually when they were unable to hit it.

To top off the day, the Mepham football team triumphed over Kennedy, winning the big game 27-7.
