Police are investigating a homicide after officers found the dead body of a Roosevelt man on the Wantagh side of Mill Pond Park Preserve, officials said.

Representatives of the Nassau County Police Department explained that at about 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, 7th Precinct officers responded to a 911 call of a body slumped over a log at Mill Pond. Police found a dead man when they arrived at the park, which stretches from south Bellmore across to south Wantagh.

Police identified the victim on Tuesday afternoon as 27-year-old Marvin Antonio Fuentes Serrano. They said that he had sustained numerous stab wounds, but did not say how many or where they were on his body.

Officials noted that he was found near the entrance to the Wantagh State Parkway, but could not confirm the exact location in the park. Public information officers also could not comment on how long the body had been in the park.

The body was transported to the Nassau County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The Homicide Squad has begun an investigation, about which they offered no further information.

Detectives ask anyone with information about Serrano’s death to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
