‘Price Is Right’ for Merokean Sue Moller

“You’ve won a car!”

Those were the four magical words that Sue Moller, of Merrick, recently heard as a contestant on the popular nationwide game show “The Price is Right.” She correctly guessed the price of the car while playing one of the show’s mini-games and won herself a new Ford Fiesta.

The episode aired on CBS on May 10, though it was filmed on April 20, while Moller was vacationing in California.

Moller, 32, has worked as a guidance counselor at Lynbrook High School for the last four years. She planned the West Coast trip with her husband, Keith, while schools were on spring break at the end of April. She had requested tickets beforehand, and said she recorded episodes of the show on her DVR before she left so she could learn how to play the games before she was called.

As one of 300 people in attendance, she said she never thought her name would be called when she arrived at “The Price Is Right” studio in Hollywood on the morning of the show. “I just started acting like a lunatic from 6 a.m. on when you get your ticket online,” said Moller.

Moller was randomly selected as a contestant when her name was called during the second half of the show, and ran exuberantly from her seat in the third row toward the stage. “I was mad I wasn’t in the back and couldn’t slap everyone’s hands on the way down,” she joked.

It took just two rounds of bidding for Moller to get the opportunity to go on stage and play for a prize after coming the closest of four contestants to guessing the retail price of two mountain bikes. She guessed $989, and the price was $1,000.

On stage, she stood next to Drew Carey, who asked her where she was from. Moller responded, “Long Island,” and when Carey asked her what exit she’s on, she replied, “Exit 24 on the Southern State.”

The game that Moller had to play was “Any Number,” requiring her to guess any digit from one to nine in order to fill out the price of either a three-piece luggage set or a Ford Fiesta. The car’s price was five digits, and the price of the luggage was three digits. Whichever item’s price she filled out first, she would win.
