Rastrelli Quartet wows Merrick-Bellmore audience

Posted

The Merrick-Bellmore Community Concert Association hosted the Rastrelli Cello Quartet on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Calhoun High School in North Merrick.

The four cellists, including Kira Kraftzoff, Kirill Timofeev, Misha Degtjareff and Sergio Drabkine, hail from Russia and have performed at many of Europe’s great concert halls, including the Gasteig in Munich, St. Petersburg’s Philharmonic Hall, Bulgaria Hall Sofia, the Liederhalle Stuttgart and the Philharmonic Hall in Minsk.

The quartet’s mission is to perform music “between the genres,” mixing works by Bach and Tchaikovsky with those of Dave Brubeck and Leroy Anderson. More than 350 people from Merrick, Bellmore and other parts of Long Island came to Calhoun to take in the music performed by the four talented cellists.
