Senator invites seniors to Golden Gathering

     New York State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., a Republican from Merrick, is inviting residents to attend his annual Golden Gathering on Thursday, Oct. 27. The Golden Gathering will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Freeport Recreation Center, 130 East Merrick Road in Freeport.

     “The Golden Gathering provides a host of programs, services andinformation for senior citizens all under one roof. I invite all senior citizens, as well as anyone who would like information about senior citizen services, to come to the Freeport Recreation Center on Oct. 27,” said Fuschillo.

     The Golden Gathering will feature more than 100 exhibitors who will answer questions about a variety of issues affecting senior citizens, such as health and nutrition, consumer protection, public safety, and insurance.

     In addition, seniors will be able to take advantage of a number of different programs and services, including:

     n No out-of-pocket-cost flu and pneumonia vaccines provided by NuHealth (subject to availability).

     n Free blood pressure, chiropractic, vision and hearing screenings.

    n Safe disposal of expired or unwanted medications.

    n Shredding of old documents through the Consumer Protection Board’s “Shred the Word” program.

     n Passport renewal through the Town of Hempstead Clerk’s Office (call Fuschillo’s office for information about Requirements).

    n One-on-one medication advice from a pharmacist.

     In cooperation with the Towns of Hempstead, Oyster Bay and Babylon, as well as the Village of Massapequa Park, free transportation will be available for seniors from 10 locations.
