Shore Road students score in soccer –– and for charity

Posted

A few hours after Landon Donovan scored a last-minute goal at the World Cup in South Africa to advance the United States to Round of 16, the Shore Road School fifth-grade Student Council hosted its own soccer shootout. Created by fifth-grader Robert Romeo, students donated money to compete in shootouts held during their physical-education classes.

Following the initial in-class round, one winner from each class advanced to the final round. The eight semifinalists were each allowed five shots on goal against physical-education teacher Brian Scott, with the top three moving on to the final round. All the money raised was donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Domenico Maffei, right, placed first, and Sydney Press, left, was the runner-up.
