Shots fired in North Bellmore lead to one arrest

A person from Brooklyn was arrested in North Bellmore on Aug. 15, after police say they fired a handgun in the air near the intersection of Jerusalem and Bellmore Avenues. 

According to the Nassau County Police Department, police received multiple calls for a female firing a black handgun into the air in North Bellmore. Upon arrival, officers observed the subject pointing a black and silver handgun at passing motorists and police. 

An officer struck the subject with the front passenger side of a patrol vehicle, causing them to fall to the ground with the weapon. 

At that point, Kiber Calderon, 31 of Lexington Avenue, also known by the name, Hanna Carillo, was placed into custody. The laoded firearm was recovered. 

Calderon suffered minor injruies and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. A police officer was also transported to an area hospital and is being treated for a trauma injury sustained during the incident. 

Calderon is charged with three counts of menacing, reckless endangerment, menacing a police officer, criminal contempt of court, criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm. 

Calderon will be arraigned when medically practical.
