The Bellmore Barber will hold their grand opening on March 1. Owned by twin brothers Gabe Haim, 30, and Danny Haim, 30, the new shop will be located convenienlty on Merrick Road.
The barber shop has a speakeasy style — featuring a bar in the back of the shop — so customers can enjoy a drink while they receive haircuts. Danny and Gabe are currently working on the bar, planning to have it finished by the time the shop opens.
Originally from Queens, the two brothers followed in their father’s footsteps, becoming barbers themselves, a tradition in their family. Referred to as “Uncle Sam,” the Haim brother’s father owned several shops in Brooklyn.
By the age of 12, both brothers were taught to cut hair in their Ronkonkoma barber shop. Danny said local police officers, firemen and other responders would let Danny watch their cuts. Wanting to be closer to his home in Woodmere, Danny decided he wanted to open a shop in Bellmore.
“Long Island is very different [than the city],” said Danny. “I just love the clients and the people.”
Danny and Gabe own three shops together in Brooklyn and said they are very excited to open a shop in Bellmore. According to both brothers, they have always had a passion for cutting hair, a trait passed down from their father.
“I don’t feel like it’s a job,” said Gabe. “If cutting hair was a sport I’d be a coach.”
Looking to share the same family vibes as their shops in Brooklyn, the shop will be laid back and relaxing for customers. With multiple shops of their own, brothers Danny and Gabe will possibly be opening more shops within the community.
The shop is will be located at 2696 Merrick Road, Bellmore, N.Y., 11710. Active on Instagram, follow the shop @thebellmorebarber for updates and more information as they get closer opening.
