Top scholar-athletes at Mepham High School were recently honored during the school’s annual Varsity M Dinner, which recognizes outstanding team and individual accomplishments.

Catered by Outback Steakhouse, the dinner allows teams to unite for one final celebration before the end of the school year.

The night’s big winners were seniors Kristen O’Brien and JonThomas Elsasser, who received the Superintendent’s Sportsmanship Award.

O’Brien played on the varsity basketball team for five years. She was a four-time All-County player, a three-year captain, a former Conference III Player of the Year, and she is the all-time leading scorer in Mepham girls’ basketball history, with 1,105 points. In the fall, O’Brien will attend Adelphi University on a basketball scholarship.

Elsasser was a three-year varsity athlete for the Mepham basketball team. As a co-captain this year, he earned All-Conference honors. Elsasser’s coaches and teachers laud him as a leader on and off the court. He will attend Towson University in the fall.
