Posted

At a Memorial Day parade on Monday, Bellmorites paid homage to Americans who died while protecting the country.

The procession, co-sponsored by North Bellmore American Legion Post No. 1749 and Bellmore American Legion Post No. 948, ran from north to central Bellmore on May 25. Residents lined the parade route, waving American flags and saluting veterans while cheering on other marchers.

A service was held at 9 a.m. at the veterans’ monument between Newbridge Road Elementary School and the North Bellmore Public Library. After, the parade stepped off at 10 a.m.

Members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2770, Vietnam War Veterans Association, fire departments, student bands, scout troops, the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores, Bellmore Kiwanis and Lions clubs, and Bellmore Knights of Columbus marched south on Bellmore Avenue before turning onto Oak Street and then Bedford Avenue. The paraded ended at the veterans’ monument outside Bellmore Fire Department headquarters in Bellmore Village, where another remembrance was held.
