Aqua America Inc., based in Bryn Mawr, Pa., provides water or wastewater services to 3 million people in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. It is traded on the New York Stock exchange under the symbol WTR. Founded in 1968 as the Philadelphia Suburban Corporation, it was renamed Aqua America Inc. in 2004, and acquired New York Water in 2007. In Bellmore-Merrick it operates under the name Aqua New York.
