A 'Reel' good fundraiser in East Rockaway

Posted

Dozens of residents came out to Reel on July 22 as part of Where Angels Play, a pay-it-forward style fundraiser for the Sandy Ground Project.

Three days later, volunteers came to the Bay Park Civic Association playground to rebuild it after Hurricane Sandy devastated it. The playground was named after Sandy Hook victim and kindergartner Noah Pozner.

“It was just so great to see neighbors in the community, many of which helped each other following Sandy, come together for a great cause in our hometown,” said Bay Park resident Danielle Lazzaro, who attended the Reel event. “Not only to help rebuild a small piece of our community, but to also remember a child who lost his life in a national tragedy. Danny [Caracciolo] did an outstanding job with this.”

“The fundraiser event at Reel was a huge success,” said resident Diana Harrison, who was also at the event. “But I’ve realized it was not just about raising money for future playgrounds to be built by The Sandy Ground Project. It was about bringing the community together, raising our spirits, and building excitement about this incredible gift given to us to honor children everywhere, and celebrating the life of one little boy named Noah Pozner. I was honored to be a part of it, and will remember this week’s events, and the people who made it happen, for the rest of my life.”
