East Rockaway Auxiliary Deputy Inspector Diane LauKaitis to shave head in support of sick friend

Posted

East Rockaway Auxiliary Deputy Inspector Diane LauKaitis is going to shave her head in support of a friend who is going through chemo treatments. “If I get $500 in pledges — and I’m close to that now — I’ll do it!” LauKaitis said that people’s reactions were priceless when she told them of her plan. “I didn’t know I was known for the amount of hair on my head!” she said, naively. “But I want to do this for my friend.”

This fundraiser is to help raise money for a close friend, Toni W. who is involved in the community. Toni, 49, is married and has two children.  She has been diagnosed with ovarian, liver and colon cancer, said LauKaitis, and is currently undergoing very intense chemotherapy treatments that have caused her to lose all her hair. “The monies raised will go towards her wig and ongoing medical expenses,” she said.
