Have you heard about the gnus? Or the lobsters and boars? What about the bears, sloths, or the pelican named George? If you haven’t heard, then it’s time to check out “Beastly Feasts! A Mischievous Menagerie in Rhyme,” now on view at Nassau County Museum of Art’s Art Space for Children. This collection of delectable rhymes about animals ‘naughty and nice’ with zany illustrations of each featured creature, is sure to entertain and pique the imagination of the entire family.  Beastly Feasts! is based on the imaginative writings of Robert L. Forbes. The book features over 40 wildly playful rhymes with charmingly intricate illustrations that will fascinate everyone from seven to seventy. On display at NCMA are the original fanciful illustrations created for the book by artist Ronald Searle.
NCMA celebrates the exhibit’s opening with a party on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 3:30 p.m. It is free with museum admission. This party also marks the end of Cycling for Kids & Art, Board Member L. Ronald S. Gray’s bicycle tour from Greenport, an event that benefits the museum’s plan to expand and enhance the present Art Space for Children.
Looking ahead, as a special afterschool treat, the museum offers a reading of “Beastly Feasts!,” on Friday, Nov. 12, at 4 p.m. Robert L. Forbes will be on hand to sign copies of his book. The reading and the book signing are free with museum admission; no reservations needed. The exhibit runs through Jan. 9, 2011.
