The sun will come out – at Hofstra University’s John Cranford Adams Playhouse – when Hofstra Entertainment and The Gray Wig present one of the world’s best-loved musicals, “Annie,” opening Saturday, Aug. 14.

The beloved musical – based on “Little Orphan Annie”– won seven Tony Awards. Hofstra Entertainment celebrates the 125th anniversary of James Whitcomb Riley’s Poem “Little Orphant Annie,” which inspired Harold Grey’s comic strip.

Starring as Annie in Hofstra’s production is 13 year-old Alexandra Antonia Moreno (at right, with Andrea Galeno as Miss Hannigan) of Baldwin. An honor student at Baldwin Middle School, Ali is “delighted to be a part of this marvelous musical experience,” which is the highlight of her career thus far. The production is directed and choreographed by Amy Dolan Fletcher, with musical direction by Stephen Pagano. It runs weekends through Aug. 29.

Tickets are $30, $28 seniors, $18 students, $15 12 and under, $15 Hofstra staff and students; available at (516) 463-6644.
