Checkered Flag Dog Walk

Posted

Dogs and their owners can “Get Your Motor Running” when Riverhead Raceway opens its legendary quarter-mile track for the First Annual Checkered Flag Dog Walk, Saturday, August 29. Participants in the fundraising event for North Shore Animal League can venture onto the NASCAR-sanctioned track and take three laps around the raceway to help support the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens of the Animal League.

The walk will be led by Rescue Ink, Long Island’s tattooed “tough” guys with a shared passion for animals. Rescue Ink’s mission is to save animals from abuse and educate the public with their anti-cruelty message. Families can also visit the Animal League Mobile Adoption Unit, which will be on premises with animals available for adoption.

Dog owners planning to attend are asked to make sure that their dog is friendly, leashed at all times, and fully vaccinated. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the raceway, 1785 Old Country Rd. (Route 58), Riverhead. Opening ceremonies take place at 9:45 a.m., with the walk beginning at 10 a.m.

Pre-registered tickets for one walker and one dog are $30 and $35 on the day of the event. Each additional dog is $5. (516) 883-7900 ext. 821 or www.AnimalLeague.org.
