East Rockaway voters say no to school budget

Voters turned down the proposed East Rockaway School District budget with a vote of 624-597. Propositions 2 and 3, however, passed with votes of 623-462 and 598-473 respectively.
"This is the community's opportunity to inform the board on what they want for their schools," said Superintendent Dr. Roseanne Melucci. "The board and I will meet to discuss whether to put it up for a revote or go directly to contingency."

School board candidates
Candidates Patti Nicoletti and Kristin Ochtera were voted in as the new school board trustees. Nicoletti had 683 votes, and Ochtera, 634 votes. Sam Schwarzman, a third candidate vying for one of the two seats on the board, got 326 votes.
