East Rockaway: We're prepared for storm

Posted

The Village of East Rockaway is stocked up on salt and sand for the season, according to Mayor Bruno Romano, and its Department of Sanitation will be staffed up to handle the snow plowing, sanding, salting, clearing of parking lots and other areas of the Village.

“We are issuing a “robo” call today to all of our residents registered on our system to please not park their vehicles on our roadways,” Romano said, “And also when snow blowing, don’t shoot the snow into the roads.” This, he said, is a village ordinance and will certainly enforced.

According to Village Clerk-Treasurer James Alles, the village has approximately 300 tons of salt on hand, in addition to another 100 tons of sand and salt mix."All plows and village snow fighting equipment are staged and ready for deployment," he said. "Twenty-five to 30 DPW staff are ready to respond. The staff will be used accordingly depending on the severity of the storm."

Alles added that they will be covering the three at the commuter railroad stations."A high water vehicle is ready for deployment and the OEM will be manned and open."
