Family Fun

Nassau Fair
It’s time for a fair. The long-standing tradition known as the Nassau Coliseum Fair returns this weekend with fun and games for all ages. Nassau Coliseum’s south parking lots are filled with entertainment, rides, and games. Enjoy over 40 rides and varied entertainment. This year, the fair welcomes the Lance Gifford Magic and Illusion Show; the Vaudeville Dog and Pony Show, a cute show for kids where trained dogs and ponies are the stars, and the Great American Frontier Show, with a rider performing death defying fetes on a galloping horse, along with an Arabian stallion who walks 60 feet across the arena on his hind legs. Also, see the Animals that Built America petting zoo, with animals from around the world, and more.
Friday, June 18 through July 11. Open 5 p.m. Fridays; 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. $8. Additional fees for rides, games and food. Nassau Coliseum, Hempstead. (631) 920-2961 or www.nassaufair.com.

Celebrating Dad

Take Dad To Brunch
Make Dad’s day – treat him to a tasty brunch, barbeque-style. The Garden City Hotel’s Rein restaurant is the elegant setting for a special barbeque themed Father’s Day meal. Dad will enjoy his favorite barbeque steaks, ribs and sliders along with ales and lagers from Long Island micro-brewery Southampton Publick House. The extensive menu, designed by Chef Steven De Bruyn, also features made-to-order omelets and a wide variety of breakfast favorites. In addition, choose from a selection of gourmet pastas and sauces prepared to order, seasonal salads, savory meats from the carving station, and a seafood extravaganza of lobster, shrimp and salmon. Cold salads, fresh fruit and platters of imported and domestic cheeses complement the dining experience, along with freshly baked breads, muffins and pastries. There is definitely something to please Dad’s palate.
Sunday, June 20. Seatings begin at noon. $69 plus tax and gratuity per adult; $34.50, children under 12. Reservations recommended. The Garden City Hotel, 45 Seventh St., Garden City. (516) 747-3000 or www.gardencityhotel.com.
