Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out!

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others He has redeemed you from your enemies: Psalm 107:1-2 NLT

God continuously rescued Israel from their numerous bondages. He freed them from Egyptian slavery and led them to the land of Canaan. Later He liberated them from the captivity of the Babylonians.

In this Psalm we see that the Psalmist found God to be the Redeemer, the Rescuer, and the Savior. Ultimately, God came to rescue the entire human race in Jesus Christ. The ministry of Jesus was a rescue operation to people held in the bondage of sin. Psalm 107 is a call to gratitude for the salvation of the Lord. The Psalmist had experienced redemption and he wanted to express his gratitude to God.

We see from this Psalm that there were those wandering in the wilderness, lost and homeless. They cried out to God and He rescued them from their distress. (vs 4-6)

Many rebelled against the words of God and scorned His counsel. He broke them with hard labor and when there was no one to help them, they cried out “Lord, Help!” and once again He saved them from their distress. (vs. 11-14)

God showed Himself merciful and healed those who were close to death’s door due to illness. They cried out to God “Lord Help!” and He saved them from their distress. (vs 18,19)

There were times when people were traveling by sea, plying the trade routes of the world. During their journey there were times where they found themselves in severe storms. They cried out “Lord help!” and He saved them from their storm. (vs 23-29)

Today we find ourselves much like these faithful people, in desperate need of God’s deliverance from slavery, from illness, from bondage and in times of storm. There is one connecting factor of salvation here in this Psalm and that is they all were rescued because the people turned to God. You and I too can discover that God rescues us from desperate predicaments. Cry out “Lord Help!” and He will hear your cry.

The first few verses of this Psalm says, “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! If He has redeemed you, then speak out! Share the beautiful rescuing touch of Jesus during these next few weeks. It’s Christmas, people don’t mind you talking about Jesus during this season. In fact, it’s one time of the year, they give you an ear.
