Catherine Papandrew, president of the Lynbrook school board, has received a New York State School Boards Association Honorary Master of Boardsmanship Award. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the association’s Leadership Development Recognition Program.

To qualify for this distinctive achievement, Papandrew participated in NYSSBA training events totaling at least 175 credits, including completion of five of eight School Board Institute courses. This series of intensive courses developed by the National School Boards Association examines the key work of school boards in enhancing student achievement.

Papandrew was first elected to the Lynbrook school board in 2003, and has served as both president and vice president. She is the chairwoman of volunteers for the Girl Scouts of East Rockaway/Lynbrook/Lakeview/Malverne and received the 2009 Girl Scouts of Nassau County Outstanding Volunteer Award. She is a former Lynbrook PTA officer and committee chairwoman. A licensed master social worker, she is the program coordinator for the Long Island Center for Nonprofit Leadership.
