The Music Academy of Garden City has named Alexei Candreva, a junior at Lynbrook High School, as Musician of the Month for April 2011.

Alexei is a singer who takes lessons with Music Academy faculty member Dr. Christine Free. She is an alto in her school’s concert choir, and has performed in various musical productions. Alexei has played the part of Sally Bowles in Cabaret with Plaza Theatrical Productions this past summer, as well as Golde in Fiddler on the Roof and Eponine in Les Miserables, both with the St. Raymond’s Youth production.  She has participated in the All County Choir since 2005, and is a member of her school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Recently, Alexei was chosen to sing the National Anthem at her school’s cheerleading competition.  She is currently preparing a NYSSMA level six-piece — the highest level to perform for a judge. Last year, she received an A+ grade on a level 5 piece.

“Alexei is a stellar student,” said Free. “She has a beautiful voice with a great depth of tone and emotional quality.  She is a hard worker, has a keen intellect for music and vocal repertoire, and is passionate about the music that she performs.  She learns music quickly — the lead in Cabaret in a week! I am excited to share in the development of her young career!”

Besides singing, Alexei loves to dance, and hopes to one day make it on Broadway. Looks like she is on her way!
