Hear the glorious sounds of the New York Philharmonic, when the orchestra visits Tilles Center, along with violin soloist Joshua Bell, on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. Music Director Alan Gilbert conducts the NYP in an evening of varied works: Debussy,

Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun; Sibelius, Violin Concerto; Richard Strauss, Don Juan; and Hindemith, Symphonic Metamorphoses on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.

Gilbert, who began his tenure as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic in

the 2009-10 season, is the first native New Yorker to hold the post.

Violinist Joshua Bell, who hails from Bloomington, Ind., continues to bring a fresh voice to the most venerable masterpieces and new works. His bold charismatic artistry has been captivating audiences for more than two decades and have brought him many honors and distinctions.

John Mangum, the artistic director of the New York Philharmonic, will lead a pre-performance discussion as part of Tilles Center’s

Performance PLUS! series.
