Christine M. Riordan, Ph.D., was inaugurated as Adelphi University's 10th president on Friday, March 11, the first woman to lead the University in its 120-year history.

More than 800 members of the Adelphi community and visitors attended the event, held in Adelphi’s Center for Recreation and Sports arena. The ceremony featured processions by faculty, deans, university officers, alumni and delegates from more than 50 colleges and universities around the country, as well as original music debut by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and Adelphi Professor Paul Moravec and a rousing rendition of Seasons of Love from RENT, the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical by alumnus Jonathan Larson ’82.

Dr. Riordan received symbols of the office, the President’s Medallion and a University hood in our colors of brown and gold.

Since beginning her appointment as Adelphi University’s 10th president in July 2015, Riordan has worked with colleagues from across the University to establish priorities in enrollment and revenue generation, campus engagement, and diversity and inclusion. Adelphi has launched a broader regional domestic recruiting strategy and expanded its international recruitment through a partnership with Shorelight Education.
