Two arrested in string of East Rockaway robberies

Victims had cash, cell phones taken

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of two men for robberies that occurred last weekend in East Rockaway.

According to detectives, a 32-year-old Bays Water Blvd., man completed two robberies and attempted two others. A co-defended, 19, of Cedarhurst, was also arrested.

On Nov., 6, at 11:15 p.m., a 46-year-old female victim was robbed of her pocketbook containing a cell phone, police said. On Nov. 7, 2010 at 12:05 a.m., a 17-year-old male victim was robbed of a cell phone and cash. A knife was displayed during the robberies. On Nov. 7, at 12:10 a.m., The first subject approached a 17-year- old male and demanded his property, but the victim fled scene without surrendering his property. On Nov. 7, at 12:20 a.m., a 33-year-old female was approached by the subjecti, who demanded her pocketbook. The victim began to walk away hurriedly and the defendant fled without any proceeds. No injuries were reported.

An off-duty Fourth Squad detective who conducted the investigations observed the defendant engaging in what he believed to be another robbery attempt and, with information that he obtained was able to make an arrest at a later time.

The first subject was charged with two counts of Robbery 1st degree and two counts of Attempted Robbery 1st degree and was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Nov. 7.

The second subject was charged with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree, two counts of Robbery 1st Degree (Attempt) and was arraigned on Nov. 9 at First District Court, Hempstead.

Arrests

On Nov. 2 at 12:53 a.m., a 48-year-old man, of Martin Luther King Drive in Hempstead, was arrested for petit larceny for stealing more than $650 worth of merchandise from the CVS at 633 Merrick Road in Lynbrook.

Criminal mischief

Between 7 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 29, flour and water were poured into the gas tank of a 2001 Mazda Tribute parked in the Municipal Parking Field #8 near Forest Avenue in Lynbrook. According to police, there was $217 worth of damage.

On Oct. 30 at 10 p.m., an unknown person broke the windshield of a 2010 Hyundai with a pumpkin on Mallow Road in East Rockaway.
