Elmont chamber installs ’12 officers, board

The Elmont Chamber of Commerce elected a new Board of Directors and new officers for 2012 in November. Those members were officially installed into the chamber by Legislator Carrié Solages (D-Elmont) on Feb. 1, at the Elmont Memorial Library.

Paul Sapienza, of Sapienza Bake Shop, was installed as the chamber’s new president; Jessica Carrasquillo, of the Bethpage Federal Credit Union, is the chamber’s 2012 first vice president; Muzzio Tallini, owner of Signature Organization, is the new second vice president; Julie Marchesella, of Queen of Hearts, is third vice president; and Carl Achille, co-owner of The Shop in Elmont, is fourth vice president. Achille joined the chamber in 2011.
Tony Errara, of Capitol One, is the Elmont chamber’s 2012 treasurer. Marchesella is the chamber’s acting secretary, in addition to third vice president.

The chamber’s 2012 Board of Directors includes Joanne Adams, of the New York Racing Association; Pat Boyle, of Gateway Youth Outreach; John Tudisco, of Fiorano Tile; Barry Scwartz, of Ridgewood Savings Bank; Chris Rosado; Gene Goldsmith; Aubrey Phillips; and Kristina Taranto.

Prior to the installation of chamber members, leaders discussed several initiatives for 2012, including revamping the chamber website, the progress of the chamber’s “Invest in Elmont” program, collaborating with NYRA to install street banners along Hempstead Turnpike, collaborating with the Martin de Porres School in Elmont to bring interns to the local businesses, developing brochures for recruiting new members, and developing a chamber slogan.

According to Sapienza, the Elmont chamber has recently brought on several new members — bringing its membership to nearly 60 — including Enterprise Pawn, Joe’s Meals on Wheels, Ahcarack Consulting, Astoria Federal Savings, Solages and Solages, the Stop 20 Diner, No Frills Tire, E&K Printing, Subway, P.C. Richards and Flushing Bank.

Upcoming events for the Elmont chamber include the inaugural Belmont Stakes Blue Ribbon 5-K Run for Prostate Cancer, which the chamber is planning to co-sponsor. The race will be held on June 3 at Belmont Park.
Additionally, the chamber is planning to host a film festival during Belmont Stakes week, on  June 6, at the Elmont Memorial Library. Local filmmakers will be submit entries for the film festival in the coming weeks.
