Elmont Jewish Center kicks off Hanukkah

Posted

The Elmont Jewish Center held its annual Grand Menorah Lighting, Chanukah Party and Hakhel Gathering on Dec. 18 at 500 Elmont Road.

Members of the congregation, friends, family and neighbors came together to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah with music, traditional latkes, sufganiyot, or jelly donuts and a hot food buffet.

Prior to the festivities, Rabbi Chaim Blachman lit the first candle on the oversized menorah. Every night for the next eight days of Hanukkah, an additional flame will be lit and they will all burn until the eighth night.
