A home on Stewart Place in Franklin Square was badly damaged after it caught on fire on March 16, around 5:15 p.m.

According to Rich Gresser, of the Franklin Square-Munson Fire Department, the fire department received a call about the fire at 5:20 p.m., and upon arrival units were met with heavy smoke. The Malverne, Garden City, West Hempstead, Stewart Manor, Lakeview and Elmont fire departments were called to assist in controlling the fire, he added.

Local firefighters were able to control the fire, which might have started in the basement, after about 1.5 hours, Gresser said, adding that the fire extended throughout house and to its first and second floors, and caused extensive damage.
According to the Nassau County Fire Marshal, the fire could have been related to an electrical issue, but the cause is still under investigation.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while working to put the fire out. One of the men was transported to an area hospital.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal.
