The Hess gas station near the intersection of Dutch Broadway and Elmont Road caught fire on Monday, April 5. The fire, which started in the station’s convenience market, set off the fire-resistance systems, filling the area with white powder designed to keep the flames from spreading.

Fire officials in the area said the cause of the fire was determined, after investigation, to be electrical.
