Franklin Square man arrested in connection with five burglaries

A Franklin Square man was arrested on Aug. 28 in connection with four burglaries in Franklin Square and one in West Hempstead. Christopher Pettey, 28, was charged with five counts of second-degree burglary, according to Nassau County police. Pettey allegedly stole cash, assorted jewelry and prescription medication.

Police made the arrest with the help of the Nassau County Police Department’s Asset Forfeiture CIRRT Task Force detectives, with the assistance of the NCPD’s 5th Precinct and the Asset Forfeiture Criminal Intelligence Analysts.

The investigation began after a 62-year old Franklin Square resident returned to his home on Rintin Street on Aug. 20, at 1:20 p.m., and discovered a male intruder inside. The homeowner confronted the suspect on the second floor of his home, but the intruder ran out the front door, police said.

The suspect was described as a white man in his late 20s to early 30s with a thin build, 5 feet 9 to 6 feet 1, balding with brown hair, who was wearing a tan shirt, gray shorts and sandals. The victim reported that jewelry was missing, according to police. Other residents of the neighborhood reported seeing a man of a similar description lurking in residents’ back yards.

Pettey was also charged with burglarizing a home on Ribbon Street in Franklin Square on Aug. 4, where he stole cash and prescription medicines police said. He is further accused of burglarizing a home on Propp Avenue in Franklin Square on Aug. 8 and a Claflin Boulevard home in Franklin Square on Aug. 10. Pettey was confronted by the homeowner while attempting to burglarize a Baldwin Drive home in West Hempstead on Aug. 20.
