Is there unclaimed money waiting for you?

Did you know you could have up to thousands of dollars in unclaimed funds from the state comptroller’s office?

The money, which is yours, could have been misplaced a variety of ways; from forgetting to change an address attached to a bank account, or a stock you forgot you purchased.

In July, State Senator Todd Kaminsky sent out roughly 19,000 letters to residents living in his district, notifying them that they may be eligible to reclaim money owed to them.

“That’s our job in government, is to help people, especially in these tight economic times,” Kaminskhy said. “Every dollar counts.”

Since then, almost $3.5 million has been returned to roughly 6,800 people, according to Kaminsky and DiNapoli, who revealed the numbers at a press conference on Dec. 15.
