Major power outage in western Nassau

More than 22,000 customers in western Nassau County are without power, the Long Island Power Authority reported on its website Thursday morning.

The areas affected include Elmont, Franklin Square, Floral Park, Bellerose, Stewart Manor and Garden City South. According to LIPA, power is expected to be restored late this morning.

The cause of the outage was a fire at the LIPA facility off of Bedford Avenue in Elmont, just north of Hempstead Turnpike.
