Whether your high school junior feels threatened by trigonometry, or your fourth-grader is fretting over fractions, Mathnasium can be just what she or she needs. The Lynbrook branch, which is one of 280 nationwide, is owned by a husband and wife team — Mamoon Mubashir and Beenish Raza — who are highly qualified to help.

Mubashir has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and has spent more than 13 years working in the field of telecommunications. He strongly believes that sound math skills are vital in preparing future generations for tomorrow’s challenges. He is passionate about helping students develop numerical fluency, and believes that mastering computational skills is essential.

Raza’s background is in technical design. Math was her favorite subject in school and she has carried that passion into her professional life. She adores helping children understand math facts and concepts, and has tutored many. A good grasp of “Number Sense,” she feels, is quintessential to the educational growth of children. Sound mathematical skills are not only important for students planning careers in technological fields, but also for those aiming for liberal arts, since understanding and performing most tasks involve an underlying knowledge.

Both agree that the majority of their students truly enjoy visiting their Mathnasium center, a fact that is surprising to some of the parents. Wherever the student falls along the spectrum, this program can help. Their team strives to teach math in a way that makes sense to its students, and the center’s rich curriculum and proven teaching methods pave the way.
