Potato pancakes and the works at German-American Festival

Posted

For 129 years, the German-American Festival at Plattduetsche Park has been a local favorite. Hundreds in Franklin Square and surrounding towns descended on Hempstead Turnpike to celebrate the two-day festival. Those in search of a German Biergarten without the need for travel enjoyed the classic German food, music and entertainment the festival had to offer.

Locals sipped on German beer while snacking on traditional food as they watched Bavarian dancing and listened to music performed by the groups Die Spitzbaum and The Foehrer Musik Freunde. Festival attendees also watched the crowning of the Miss Plattduetsche Queen as children enjoyed amusement rides and games.
