24th annual ‘Salute to Veterans’ held at Eisenhower Park

The 24th Annual Salute to Veterans program on was held at Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre on Friday, August 5, from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The evening was dedicated to the Tuskeegee Airmen. After the ceremony and the traditional “Roll Call of the States,” the United Service Organizations Inc. Liberty Bells performed a singing and dancing number.

The headliners for the evening, Dean Karahalis and the Concert Pops of Long Island, presented “A Star Spangled Spectacular” — a patriotic revue of American music.

“Salute to Veterans” was a free event, presented by the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Museums.

In addition to honoring veterans, the Nassau County Dental Society’s public outreach and access to care the Nassau County Dental Society, a component of the New York State Dental Association and the American Dental Association, provided oral health screenings, free of charge, to veterans and constituents, until 9:30 p.m.

The Summer Concert Series at the Lakeside Theatre is made possible through proceeds collected from visitors staying in hotel and motel rooms throughout Nassau County. Since 2006, more than $10 million has been collected from those hotel stays.
