Sewanhaka CHSD holds graduation for local high schools

Elmont Memorial High School, H. Frank Carey High School and Sewanhaka High School celebrated graduation last weekend as more than 850 students that comprised the combined classes of 2018 from the three high schools closed one chapter of their lives and prepared for another.

Led by Superintendent Dr. Ralph Ferrie, the three schools gathered at Hofstra University to celebrate their achievements and to reflect, through words and music, on what for many was the most significant accomplishment of their lives to this point.

State Sen. Todd Kaminsky read St. Theresa of Calcutta’s poem “Do It Anyway” to a rapt crowd of families, friends, graduates and guests. St. Theresa, or Mother Theresa, as she is better known, advised:

“. . . If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

“If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway . . .

“The good you do today will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

“Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway . . . “

The Herald congratulates the classes of 2018 for the combined efforts and accomplishments of their members and wishes all this year’s graduates the best in whatever ventures and adventures may be next.
