Stewart Manor students race for a cure

Pre-kindergarten students in Cigdem Puzantyan’s class at Stewart Manor School cheered as fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders raced to raise money for breast cancer on Oct. 21.

More than 400 Stewart Manor Elementary School 4th, 5th and 6th-graders ran the school’s 1,200-meter “Prediction Marathon” from the Stewart Manor School to the Stewart Manor Country Club last Friday. During the race, pre-kindergarten to third-grade students dressed in pink and cheered them on with pink pompoms.
In time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event was held to raise money for the American Cancer Society, specifically for breast cancer research. Students also worked on their math skills by making predictions for their race times.
