Neighbors are welcome to check out and purchase goods from Franklin Square community members at the community yard sale hosted by the Franklin Square Civic Association Nov. 4.

The event will last from 10 a.m. between 3 p.m. and more than 40 sellers have registered for the event so far, community yard sale event coordinator Jonathon Israel said. Last year, around 50 sellers participated in the sale which is held in the Rath Park pool parking lot in Franklin Square.

“We’ve had everything from clothing to small pieces of furniture,” he said. “Some crafts. You know, the majority of it is really home-goods type stuff.”

Sellers have brought sports memorabilia like used equipment, jerseys and collectables. Others have sold jewelry, books and mixed holiday decorations.

The event differs from other street fairs hosted throughout the community that host vendors such as businesses that promote their services. The civic association stipulates that sellers for the yard sale sell home-type goods.

“We’ve stuck to our guns on it and it’s worked out pretty well, and I think that that’s why we’ve had a great turn out every year,” Israel said.

The event started about five years ago. The civic association used to host a yard sale twice a year, but scaled back after a break during the Covid-19 pandemic. Israel said the event took a lot of work to put together as it requires town permits, the department of health, advertising and seller registration.

This year’s community yard sale will be the third hosted in November, and Israel said that in past years the weather has been great.

“We weren’t competing with all of the Halloween, fall festival types of stuff — so for us, it worked out,” he said.

The deadline to register as a seller for the yard sale is Oct. 20. Community members interested in registering can contact communitysale@fsqcivic.org. Seller spots include four parking spots to park a vehicle and set up merchandise throughout the other three spaces. The registration fee is $25 for civic association members and $50 for non-members.

The registration fees will pay for the event cost and go towards programs hosted by the civic. One of the programs the civic association is involved with, in partnership Franklin Square Chamber of Commerce, is the beautification of the triangle near Saint Catherine of Sienna Church. The groups plant flowers there and help install a tree in the area during the holidays.
