In an effort to help those looking for a new job, changing jobs or entering the workforce for the first time, Sen. Jack Martins (R-Mineola) and Nassau County Community College are sponsoring a free “Job Resource Workshop” on Sept. 17, at the Elmont Memorial Library.

According to Martins, the workshop will focus on writing an effective resumé and cover letters, identifying job opportunities, practicing interview strategies, networking and dressing for success. Break out sessions at the workshop will focus on each skill area. Sessions will be available for a variety of job-seekers, including high school and college-age students, and adults who are looking to make a career switch after working for several years in a separate industry.

“My goal is to help job seekers develop the necessary skills to give them that edge when they are applying for a job,” Martins said, adding, “having that edge is critical when competing for a job in these challenging economic times. I’m happy to have been able to put this workshop together to meet a community need.”

Registration for the workshop will begin at 9:30 a.m., and classes will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A job resource networking event for participants will take place at 12:15 p.m., at the conclusion of the workshop. The Elmont, Franklin Square and Floral Park chambers of commerce will be participating in the event.

To reserve space for the workshop, email Martins' office at martins@nysenate.gov. However, registration may be competed on Sept. 17. For more information, call (516) 746-5924.
