The vibe will still be going strong when Spyro Gyra, one of the giants of jazz fusion, plays The Paramount in Huntington, on Friday, April 13, at 8 p.m.

After some 5,000 performances, 29 albums and nearly 40 years together, another band might be considered middle aged. But Spyro Gyra – with bandleader Jay Beckenstein, Julio Fernandez, Joel Rosenblatt, Scott Ambush, and Tom Schuman – is still in its prime and shows little sign of wanting to slow down either, gaining Grammy® nominations for each of their last four albums.

For more than three decades, the band has maintained a position at the forefront of modern jazz with several feats of creative dexterity. It started with Morning Dance, released in 1979, whose title track became a Top 40 single and proved to be the band’s breakout song. To this day, the Calypso-inspired track is still in heavy rotation on contemporary jazz stations.

At its heart, Spyro Gyra is just a bunch guys who love to play.

Tickets are $29.50, $39.50 and $69.50; available at (631) 673-7300 or (800) 745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com or www.paramountny.com.
