Helen Krakauer of James Street in Franklin Square turned 99 years old on Feb. 10. At 12 p.m. that day, Joann and William Cook, local residents and co-owners of Super Heros — located on 885 Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square — celebrated with Krakauer by surprising her with a “birthday hero,” at her home. According to the Cooks, Krakauer frequently orders meals from the eatery.

The Cooks opened the store in 2011, and took the advice of their 6-year-old son, Giovanni, a Polk Street School sixth-grader, to name it. “He said, ‘If kids are ever going to grow up to be superheroes, then they need to eat like superheroes when they are kids,’” William remembers. He added that the restaurant strives to offer healthy alternatives to fast food.
