Nassau police arrested Jerome Washington in Elmont on Oct. 21 and charged him with burglary, attempted burglary, criminal mischief, larceny and menacing.

Washington approached a 46-year-old man on Hempstead Turnpike and offered to sell him two yellow metal rings for $10 just after midnight Saturday. The victim purchased the rings from Washington and was then followed back to his home.

After the man was inside his home, Washington kicked and damaged the front door to enter. He then threatened a second man, 47, and threw a shoe rack, yelled that he wanted his rings back and that he was going to kill him. In fear of his safety, the 47-year-old man ran out of the house.

Washington then went to a bedroom where he kicked the door trying to get in. There, he found a 17-year-old boy and yelled again for his rings. Washington went upstairs and forced his way into another locked bedroom door where he found the man he originally sold the rings to and demanded the rings. The victim gave him the rings.

Washington exited the home through the front door and was arrested when police arrived at the scene. No injuries were reported. Police said the estimated cost of the damaged doors was approximately $1,750.

Washington will be arraigned on Oct. 21 in Hempstead First District Court.
